Designed for photographers who shoot a lot

Three steps. That's it.

No complicated settings. No cloud uploads. Everything runs locally on your machine.

1

Point and scan

Select a folder, drive, or your entire photo library. PhotoPurge indexes everything in seconds using perceptual hashing — no cloud, no uploads.

2

AI picks the best

Our AI engine analyzes each group for sharpness, exposure, lighting, and composition. It marks the best shot and flags the rest for removal — you stay in control.

3

Review and purge

See the AI's recommendations side by side. Accept with one click or override manually before purging.

Everything you need to clean up your photo library

Similar photo finder

Detects near-duplicates using perceptual hashing — catches resized, rotated, edited, and filtered copies.

AI best-photo picker

Evaluates sharpness, exposure, noise, and composition. Picks the winner in every group of similar shots.

Burst shot detection

Groups series of shots taken seconds apart. Keep the one perfect frame, purge the rest.

RAW file support

Handles CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG, RAF, and more. Works alongside your existing RAW workflow.

100% offline & private

Your photos never leave your machine. All scanning and AI analysis runs locally. No telemetry, no cloud, no account.

Full audit trail

Every purge writes a delete manifest — a JSON record of exactly what was removed and when. Total transparency, zero guesswork.

Keep the best N

Configure how many photos to keep per group — keep just the single best shot, or retain your top 2–3 picks from a burst. Your call.

How the AI decides which photo to keep

PhotoPurge doesn't just find duplicates — it helps you decide which one deserves to stay.

Sharpness scoring

Analyzes edge contrast and focus depth. A slightly sharper shot wins over a slightly soft one, even if both look fine at a glance.

Exposure balance

Evaluates histogram distribution. Prefers well-exposed shots over blown highlights or crushed shadows.

Composition analysis

Detects rule-of-thirds alignment, horizon level, and subject placement. Picks the frame with better structure.

Noise estimation

Measures sensor noise in shadow regions. Prefers cleaner shots, especially at high ISO.

You always have the final say. AI recommendations are suggestions — accept all, accept per group, or override individually.

Questions, answered

Does PhotoPurge upload my photos to the cloud?

No. Everything runs locally on your Windows machine. Scanning, AI analysis, and duplicate detection all happen offline. Your photos never leave your computer.

What image formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, WebP, and RAW formats including CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG, and RAF. If there's a format you need that isn't listed, let us know.

How does the AI decide which photo is "best"?

The AI evaluates four factors: sharpness (edge contrast and focus depth), exposure (histogram balance), noise (shadow region analysis), and composition (subject placement and horizon level). The highest-scoring photo in each group gets the "AI Best Pick" tag. You can always override.

How fast is the scanning?

The first scan builds a local index — on a typical Windows machine that's roughly 10,000 photos per minute. Re-scanning the same folders is dramatically faster: a 87,000-photo library takes about 8 minutes on a warm cache versus hours on a cold first scan. Only new or changed photos are re-processed.

Can I tune how similar photos must be to group?

Yes. The similarity threshold is adjustable — dial it toward "Exact" to catch only true duplicates, or toward "Similar" to group edited crops, filtered copies, and resized versions. PhotoPurge always finds byte-identical copies first (BLAKE3), then applies perceptual matching at your chosen sensitivity.

How many photos does it keep per group?

By default it keeps the single best photo in each group. You can configure it to keep your top 2–3 picks — useful for burst series where you want a few good frames, not just one. You can also override any recommendation individually before purging.

Is there a Mac version?

PhotoPurge is currently Windows-only (Windows 10 64-bit and later). We're evaluating other platforms based on demand.

How much does it cost?

PhotoPurge Standard is free and scans up to 500 photos and shows the first 10 similar groups per scan — full AI best-pick recommendations included. A one-time Pro license removes both caps (unlimited photos, every similar group) and adds AI aesthetic scoring. No subscription — pay once, use forever.
